To create a new note, simply click on the Everpad app indicator and select “Create Note” or click on an existing note to edit it. Once it does, click on it and select “Settings & Management” then “Authorise” to configure Everpad with your Evernote account. You will then see the app indicator appear on your panel. Once installed all you need to do is search for ‘Everpad’ in the Unity Dash and then run the Everpad application. Sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get install everpad To install Everpad all you need to do is run the following commands in terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvbn-rm/ppa It supports online sync, notes, tags, notebooks, file attachments (remember there's a 60 MB monthly limit) and places. The project author is apparently working on the UI and desktop functionality before tying the application into Evernote’s API.On Linux, you can use NixNote (previously Nevernote), an unofficial Evernote client written in Java but if you want something lightweight, you should try Everpad, a new Evernote client that integrates nicely with Unity. It’s a work in progress and seems to not support core functionality (syncing notes) yet. Tantalus is an open-source project that aims to create a desktop Evernote replacement that looks really sharp.

NixNote 2 can be found on GitHub or over at SourceForge. If you have a large collection of notes, performing the initial sync to NixNote 2 will take a long time. Evernote’s API is rate-limited, which means you can download only a certain number of notes for a given time period (about 45 minutes). The big drawback to NixNote 2 is the Evernote API. The UI is written with Qt, so users who aren’t using the KDE Plasma desktop will have to install the Qt libraries. As a result, the interface feels smooth and far less buggy. NixNote 2 is a complete rewrite of NixNote in C++ using the Qt framework, having speed and a reduced memory footprint as the main goals.

NixNote, previously known as Nevernote, is an unofficial Evernote client for Linux which was initially written in Java. The NixNote 2 interface shows dramatic improvements from the various beta releases. Five months after the last alpha, NixNote 2 beta is finally available for download.
